Our Community

In 2010, we celebrated our centenary. With 100 years of history within this village, we are an established part of our community.

The Centenary celebrations illustrated the true values of the community with everyone co-operating to make a day to remember for new and old villagers and pupils past and present.

The village organisations helped us with our historical/photographic exhibition and the Parish Council set up a 10 year long award: ‘The Padian Award for Community Spirit’ to be given annually to a Year 4 leaver. We formed a new choir The Houghton Hoots and had an amazing open-air concert of music and dancing in costumes through the ages.

Parish councillor Paul Rolfe said "The whole event encouraged intergenerational learning whilst celebrating as a community the success of our village school. It made the new generation proud of their connection to this living history."

“The school is the centre of this wonderful community”

The School is involved in a number of ways with the community including holding their annual Harvest Festival at the village church and our year 4 children delivered harvest boxes to the community.
